Meet the Authors

Melody Hsieh

Melody’s upbringing has played an important role in where she is at today and how she relates to business. She began working in a factory in Taiwan at the age of 8 and saw her parents working extremely hard to build a better future and environment for their children. She learned quickly that hard work and smart work are the essential ingredients of success.

She came to America as a young teenager who knew only a dozen or so English words. Working hard and working smart, she quickly mastered the English language, finished high school and a college and achieved an MBA, her crowning educational achievement, from the USC Marshall School of Business.

Prior to the MBA program, she followed her dream and established a business, Asa Products, Inc. Being a female and minority entrepreneur was difficult, but her mantra has been and always will be, “Dream big and never give up!” With hard work and determination, Asa continues to grow and, now she is delighted about the positive impact that Asa has had on families and youth. Here, her vision is to develop the most stylish and innovative products for the active lifestyle community and every product Asa works on is designed to improve the lives of our customers and make them smile. Now, nothing makes her more happy than to share the success story of her business to inspire others and to help them succeed.

Grace Wu

Grace is an avid cyclist, vocal proponent of walkable/bikeable communities, a budding news junkie, and a native Angelino. A neurotic workaholic by nature, she has learned to expend her tremendous nervous energy through exercise and outdoor recreation. She has developed the strong belief that health and happiness come from quality time spent with family and friends, in self reflection, and in connection with nature (to paraphrase Bill McKibben).

In acting on this realization, she has explored numerous trails in the San Gabriel Mountains of Southern California with friends and family, has spent endless hours in the good company of alder trees and ants, and has ruminated under the stars in the high sierras. A recent graduate of University of Cambridge, UK, Grace has also rambled across dewy verdure hills, amongst sheep and grazing cattle, and often pondered the discrepancies between the European and American lifestyles. Through these experiences, she has come to love and appreciate, over and over again, the importance—for cultivation of our minds, bodies, and even, spirit—of exploring and respecting nature’s “outdoor laboratories.”

Tommy Braun

Tommy is a giant sports fan, as an enthusiast for active outdoor recreation Mobo is the perfect home for Tommy. As a former Mt. Sac Mounties’ Baseball player, Tommy’s team philosophy brings a great atmosphere to work. As a mentor for many youths in the city of Diamond Bar Parks and Recreation Department, at a young age Tommy was tasked with many responsibilities.  Always eager to improve, Tommy would lead numerous Big 5 Sporting Goods stores to positive results as his role as Store Manager.

While he looks back fondly at his time at California State Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo where he received his bachelor’s degree, Tommy has found a home in the Los Angeles region and the home of Mobo. The sunny California days make it easy for Tommy to cruise the PCH boardwalk on his Mobo Triton Pro. While he can be seen mostly riding with his friends and family, Tommy always brings a smile to work as he is always excited to go to work with such a great staff!

Joe Burton

Growing up in the Los Angeles County, Joe has adapted the local sports teams as part of his DNA (Lakers, Dodgers, Kings, and UCLA). With no professional football team in town, he turned his focus to fantasy football where he struggles to not be in last place every year. With over 10 years of experience in working with inner city youths, Joe continues to apply the principles he learned working with young people to the business world. He has developed a mentality and philosophy where he strives to put the needs of others before his own.

As a husband and father of one, Joe is learning that life cannot be taken for granted. Thus, every moment should be valued and appreciated. He tries to brighten every moment with a joke or with a simple smile.  Knowing that there is no task too big or too small, Joe is excited to contribute to the weekly blog articles where readers can be engaged and inspired.
