Nobody said staying fit is easy. In fact, it seems harder today than ever before. With so much to do and so little time, many Americans seem to lose track of their health and forget the benefits of living healthy and staying fit. Here are five outstanding tips on how you can build positive habits to maintain a fit, healthy and happy lifestyle.
1. Watch what you eat. Seriously
Don’t be a victim to instant gratification syndrome: most fast food meals and microwaveable dinners lack in nutrition. Have you ever considered the amount of preservatives that go into frozen meals or why fast food is so cheap? There is always an exception to the rule, but I would bet that 95% of these food products do more harm to your body than good. Treat your body right and set aside time to prepare and cook your own meals at home. With a proper diet you will notice that you will truly feel better. Trust me, your body will appreciate it.
2. Exercise with friends. It’s more fun!
Planning a hike, bike ride or trip to the gym with friends holds many more benefits than one may notice. Remember back in grade school when we had to run laps? I remember thinking, “If everyone else can do it, I know I can!” The same theory applies to all types of basic exercise. It is too easy to make an excuse for yourself to stop exercising when you’re alone yet when you’re in a group it’s much easier to push yourself to keep going.
3. Sleep well. You’ll live longer
Many health problems are triggered with a lack of sleep. Studies show that people who have good sleeping habits are healthier and live longer than those who don’t. Sleeping well helps keep your heart healthy, reduces your stress levels, and improves your memory. Think about it; when was the last time you met someone successful and healthy that didn’t sleep well?
4. Spread the love
Loving and being loved makes you happier, stronger, and live longer. Love yourself, love what you do for a living, love those that are around you and love the thought of what can happen in the future. Many say this is the key to a happy existence. Simply put, love makes people happy, happy people have low levels of stress, low levels of stress contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
5. Take time for you
You only live once. Hopefully when you are old you can look back and be satisfied that you truly lived your life to the fullest. With that being said, make sure to take time out of your day to do things that make you happy. Enjoy the scenery and don’t let life pass you by!
