Seattle is a city with a lot of accommodations for bicycle riders, which has led to the League of American Bicyclists to rank Washington state as the friendliest state for bicyclist. Their announcement coincided with Bike to Work week in Washington earlier in the month. According to the organization Washington has been actively supporting cyclist through their various projects, programs and even with legislation. Wisconsin, Maine, Oregon and Minnesota came after Washington to round the top 5 bicycle friendliest states in the United States. From the organizations website:
The Bicycle Friendly State Program is a two part recognition program that ranks and recognizes states that actively support bicycling. First, states are ranked annually based on their level of bike-friendliness. Secondly, states that wish to apply for a Bicycle Friendly State award designation can receive further recognition and promotion of their efforts as well as feedback, technical assistance, training and further encouragement to improve their bicycling legislation, projects, and programs.
