Whether you’re riding your new Mobo Cruiser, jogging or playing baseball, swimming or engaging in any other type of sport or exercise activity, it’s especially important to stay alert.
When you’re exercising, it’s tempting to stay focused on your body and what you’re doing or trying to accomplish. However, to keep yourself safe, you also need to be very aware of what’s going on around you. Things you’ll need to consider are vehicles, other people, the integrity of the ground around you, the weather and the potential for objects around you to actually run into your body.
Many, many accidents occur each year because athletes and people who are exercising are not aware or are not paying attention to their surroundings.
That said, what can you do to decrease your chances of an accident when riding your Mobo Cruiser, playing a sport or engaging in some other type of exercise? First, don’t add elements to your activities that will distract you. Hearing is a very important part of exercise safety. Lots of people love to wear headphones or ear buds when they’re exercising. The problem here is that an important part of staying aware and staying safe has to do with your ability to hear what’s going on around you. That last thing you want to do is be hit by an object that you could have easily heard coming had you not been wearing headphones.
Sight is also very important. “I didn’t see her!” How many times have you heard that one? When you’re exercising, you have to understand that you should be in a defensive mode to stay safe. You have to be able to predict what might happen around you and to do that you need to use sight effectively. Always look around all the time and always consider things like blind spots, what could come from behind you and know where you are and where you’re going. Get familiar with an area and the conditions of the area before you exercise there.
