Exercise, good sleep, and a healthy diet are very important for longevity. The length of your life can be cut short, in some cases by 50% or greater if you do not take these important factors in to consideration. Some people try extreme diets but a healthy lifestyle is not complicated. Some do simple things and celebrate 100 years of life with dinner and a glass of wine while others try intricate diets and do not live half their potential life. This made me wonder what exactly helps someone become a centenarian and I will share what I believe to be the three key factors.
- The first thing to monitor is your intake. Eating the right food can make a big difference in the way you look, act and feel. Cooking food at home and staying away from over processed foods is very important. When you cook food at home you can see what really goes in to your body. You should eat fresh fruits and vegetables that are close to the way nature made it. Rather than counting calories you should get a good balance of fat, protein, carbohydrates, fiber and calcium.
- The second factor is sleep. Sleeping is very essential for physical health. Lack of sleep impacts our health, safety and longevity. Getting too little or too much sleep can make a great impact in your life span. Generally doctors recommend seven to nine hours of sleep per day. WebMD did a study where researchers monitored peoples sleep habits and then exposed them to a cold virus. They found that people who got seven hours of sleep or less were three times as likely to get sick as the people who got eight hours of sleep.
- Exercise is the third factor to a happier and longer life because it keeps your body in optimum condition and relieves stress. It also boosts your energy and improves your mood. Walking one hour per day can lower your risk of death by 40% compared to those who get no physical activity. Therefore, we all should eat good food, sleep well and get plenty of exercise so one day we may celebrate a century of life.
